For backcountry hunters, efficiency and simplicity can make all the difference when you're far from home and deep in the wilderness. One of the standout features of our system is how straightforward it is to swap different bags onto your frame. Whether you're transitioning from a 3K bag to a 5K, or even an 8K, this guide will show you just how easy it is to make the switch.
Step-by-Step Bag Swap
-
Release the Load Lifters
-
Begin by popping the load lifters loose from the slots of the ears of the frame. This frees up the top of your pack for easy removal.
-
-
Unbuckle Side Straps
-
Locate the two buckles on either side of the bag and undo them. These straps secure the bag to the frame, so removing them allows the bag to detach.
-
-
Unclip from the Hip Belt
-
Move down to the bottom of the frame and release the lower webbing straps of the bag from the hip belt. With this final step, the bag is fully detached from your frame. Simple and quick!
-
-
Prepare the New Bag
-
Grab your next bag—whether it’s a 3K, 5K, or an 8K—and roll it out. If you’re not carrying a load of meat, slide the webbing over the ears of the frame for added stability. Skip this step if the frame is loaded with meat.
-
-
Reattach the Bag
-
Attach the new bag to the frame by:
-
Securing the load lifters.
-
Reconnecting the bottom webbing straps through the common loops at the bottom of the hip belt and through the ladder locks on the bag. It’s simple enough to do one-handed, even if you're not using your dominant hand.
-
Buckling the side straps (orange bar tack on top and bottom). If you’re using a larger bag like the 8K, attach the middle webbing strap for additional security.
-
-
Color-Coded Simplicity
One of the features that makes this system intuitive is the use of orange and gray bar tacks. These are strategically placed on the corners of the bag and frame for quick reference:
-
Orange bar tacks: Match orange to orange for perfect alignment.
-
Gray bar tacks: Similarly, gray aligns with gray in the center.
This color-coded system is a lifesaver when you're packing out an animal at 1 am in the pitch dark. No more fumbling or second-guessing—you’ll know exactly how everything should connect.
Why Simplicity Matters
When you’re out in the backcountry, exhausted from a long hunt and with miles to go, the last thing you want is to wrestle with complicated gear. Our system ensures that swapping bags is straightforward, even in less-than-ideal conditions. With just a few quick steps, you’re ready to get back on the trail with a load that’s secure and balanced.
So, whether you’re upgrading your capacity for a big haul or switching out an empty bag for a loaded one, remember: simplicity is paramount. Happy hunting, and safe travels out there!
